Several decades ago St. Mary’s became New York’s first certified traumatic brain injury (TBI) program for children. Since that time, our commitment to excellence in the research and treatment of neurological impairment and spinal cord injuries has established us as a pioneer in the field.

Each year St. Mary’s treats hundreds of children from infancy to young adulthood with cognitive and physical disabilities related to spinal cord injuries and, more commonly, traumatic brain injuries from an accident, illness, infection, tumor, or stroke. Through close collaboration, our expert team of practitioners brings to bear a diverse range of specializations as they develop individualized interventions that include medical care, neurorehabilitation, physical rehabilitation, augmentative communication support, nutritional support, and social services coordination. Members of this team include pediatric physiatrists, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech/ language pathologists, respiratory therapists, nurses, and social workers.

We welcome funding partners as we advance the following Neuro-Rehab programs:

Camp Helping Hands: A camp-like setting is the perfect place for children with limited mobility to come together to learn, to play, and to advance therapeutic goals. Recreational activities are combined with intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy in this highly popular offering

Robotics: No other local pediatric rehabilitation facility or acute care hospital has a similarly broad array of cutting edge equipment for the treatment of brain and spinal cord injury. Our robotics-based programs integrate four cutting edge devices with more traditional rehab modalities.
