St. Mary’s 25th Annual Golf & Tennis Outing held on Monday, July 25th at the Fresh Meadow Country Club and Deepdale Golf Club, raised $300,000 to support vital programs and services at St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children, one of the region’s premier providers of post-acute pediatric care for children and families with special needs.

While some enjoyed the tranquility of a rolling hills golf course, others swung into friendly competitions on the tennis courts. This year, St. Mary’s also added Mahjong which many of the women enjoyed throughout the day.

Guests were also kept busy with the live and silent auctions and 50/50 raffles with extravagant prizes ranging from a Thanksgiving getaway in Aspen Colorado, a weekend of fun at the Shoreham Hotel in NYC, whitewater rafting adventures, dinner at the exclusive Rao’s restaurant, and the ultimate prize – Picowso!- a hand painted life size cow by renowned international artist, Billy the Artist, which sold for a whopping $15,000.

After a full day of fun, guests were treated to cocktails and appetizers followed by dinner and a brief program.

This year, St. Mary’s was pleased to honor Michael Weinbaum, Vice President of United Capital Corp., who oversees the daily operations of the company’s real estate investments and manufacturing subsidiaries with operations in New Jersey, Mexico and France.

Michael’s interest in St. Mary’s was piqued when learning of the heartfelt journey his friends, Robin & Kevin Portnoy and their family, experienced while their young son Zachy was cared for at St. Mary’s. Inspired by the story, Michael and his wife Melissa were eager to help St. Mary’s Kids and since, have been advocating on behalf of St. Mary’s.

During the program, Michael gave a heartfelt speech and awed the audience with this compassion towards St. Mary’s Kids after being presented with the William S. Straight Humanitarian Award, which is given each year to an individual who exemplifies outstanding leadership and dedication to improving the health and quality of life for children with special needs.St. Mary’s annual Golf Outing brings businesses, community leaders, and volunteers together for a great cause – to raise funds and awareness for children with special needs, and this year was no different.
