St. Mary’s provides children and their families with a positive community and support system. We provide families with encouragement and hope to help overcome health complications and everyday challenges,” says Jillian Dizon, an Occupational Therapist at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children.
As an Occupational Therapist, Jillian helps our patients become healthy, independent individuals at home and in their communities. She provides treatment through therapeutic exercises and activity, sensory exploration/play, and training on daily living skills.
Jillian feels St. Mary’s is exceptional in that it provides patients with a multidisciplinary plan of care to meet their needs. St. Mary’s assures that children with medically complex conditions and their families are given thorough care and support whether it is through inpatient care, medical day rehabilitation, or home care. According to Jillian, the team’s priorities are helping the children achieve their full potential, helping along each step of the journey.
When Jillian first started at St. Mary’s, she worked with a patient who had difficulty transitioning to therapies as he had low endurance and was easily fatigued, impacting his motivation and participation. With the hard work of Jillian and others on her team, the patient has made great strides and improvements. He has gained confidence in himself, which has improved his motivation while at his therapies. The patient continues to make tremendous progress each and every day, which is rewarding to Jillian and keeps her motivated to continue working at St. Mary’s. She says: “No matter what challenges and health complications the children are experiencing, you’ll always find a loveable smile.”
