Dylan has a rare condition called Lennox Gastaut Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy that usually appears in early childhood and becomes apparent during infancy. He is blind, nonverbal, nonambulatory, and has seizures daily.
Dylan is a happy boy who loves music and musical toys. He loves to laugh when you play and act silly with him. While he needs help with his legs, Dylan can take steps when held in a standing position.
Melissa Gomez, DPT, MSPT, ATC, a physical therapist and an independent contractor for St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children, has worked with Dylan for four years and watched him progress significantly. Dylan has improved head control, trunk control, sitting balance and he is beginning to improve his standing balance with less external and physical support. Dylan can also push himself into a quadruped position and enjoys riding an adapted tricycle.
“Melissa is an extraordinary therapist, and she is very caring, lovely, a hard worker has a lot of compassion. She goes the extra mile to help her patients, and anything I need, his therapist is there to support me. I can’t ask for any else. I appreciate everything she does for my son” – Ana Sanchez, Dylan’s Mom.
