Darryl is a sweet, curious, and spunky 5-year old boy that came to the St. Mary’s Center for Pediatric Feeding Disorders due to his feeding difficulties. He was completely dependent on Gastrostomy tube (G-Tube) feeding when he entered the program.
After just six weeks of feeding therapy at St. Mary’s, Darryl’s source of nutrition and hydration transformed as he began to eat a variety of purees, and we are excited to share he is no longer G-tube dependent!
Throughout his admission, Darryl’s diet expanded to 18 purees in addition to various new liquids. Alongside Darryl’s journey were his parents and three nurses, who put in incredible efforts to follow mealtime protocol.
Darryl’s new means of nutrition and hydration will allow him to share mealtimes with peers at school, enjoy different foods and flavors, and enjoy family meals at home. This journey had not only allowed Darryl to transform his daily meals but also spend more mealtimes with loved ones at home and create many more positive memories with food that will last a lifetime!
Way to go, Darryl!
