What do you find most rewarding about working at St Mary’s?
St Mary’s Healthcare system is for children where big hearts like mine can help little patients. I love kids, and being a nurse allows me the opportunity to provide some much-needed care and comfort. This, in turn, gives me joy because working with sick kids at St Mary’s, helping them out, and leaving them with a smile is great. Helping those patients who need it most and knowing that I am actively contributing to a child’s well-being creates a strong sense of purpose in my work, which I believe is the most rewarding aspect of working at St Mary’s.
In what ways do you collaborate with others in your organization/Team?
Nurses collaborate with other healthcare team members to provide comprehensive patient care by using skills and expertise with the advancement of technology. How the healthcare industry operates has changed in many ways to provide better and safer patient care. Collaborating with other team members through communication is one of the key essentials to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Communicating effectively is vital in healthcare settings to facilitate and coordinate patient care at all times. Lack of clear communication can impact patient care and outcomes immensely.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in your field or looking to advance their care?
As a home healthcare nurse, I can advise someone just starting out in this field to listen to patients and family needs, prioritize patient care, and communicate effectively. Collaborating with other team members and managing your workload effectively will prevent burnout. Plan, be flexible, and always provide tender loving care to all patients. I also advise those who want to advance their careers to get more education; new knowledge or expertise always opens new doors. Higher degrees can lead to more opportunities.
How do you see your position aligning with the mission of St. Mary’s?
The mission of St. Mary’s is essentially to improve the health and quality of life for children, young adults, and families that a range of medical and healthcare needs. I feel like my role as a home healthcare nurse does exactly that. I work daily with my patients to help them with their needs, advise patient/family with any issues that may arise, console and aid them in their medical journey. It’s amazing every day to see how I can help my patients out.
