Dedicating one’s life to philanthropy and giving back to the community requires a special kind of person. Henry Lievre and his beloved late wife, Deborah, exemplify this extraordinary commitment through their philanthropic efforts, giving rise to The Henry T. and Deborah M. Lievre Society at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children. Their story is one of love, compassion, and a shared belief in making a positive impact on the lives of others.
As a devoted board member and former chairman of St. Mary’s Foundation for Children, Henry has generously supported programs and services while providing guidance to enhance the mission of improving the health and quality of life for St. Mary’s Kids and their families.
Deborah and Henry, both New York City natives, married in 1973 and raised two children on Long Island. They embraced a life grounded in love, respect, and a strong belief in philanthropy. As founder of the Independent Wealth Advisory Group, Henry played crucial roles at various financial institutions, including JP Morgan Chase, leading the U.S. Tax Planning Team. The New York State Bankers Association recognized him as a tax expert and contributed to many industry activities.
While Henry was the philanthropy expert, Deborah initiated the connection with St. Mary’s by bringing homemade chocolate to the children. When introduced to the hospital, Henry became treasurer and a passionate advocate for St. Mary’s.
In 2017, Lievre’s son, Henry Lievre, Jr., died after a long battle with cancer. In tribute to him, the Lievre family established Uncle Hankie’s Family Foundation to provide pet therapy programs to patients and hospitals—including St. Mary’s.
The Lievres’ shared commitment to children with special healthcare needs shaped St. Mary’s innovations. Sadly, in 2021, Deborah succumbed to cancer. The Henry T. and Deborah M. Lievre Society honors her memory and their selfless devotion to St. Mary’s.
Honoring Deborah’s Memory:
The Henry T. and Deborah M. Lievre Society now stands as a tribute to her memory and the selfless devotion of both Henry and Deborah to St. Mary’s. This society, named in their honor, embodies the spirit of giving that has become a hallmark of their philanthropic legacy.
The story of Henry and Deborah Lievre is a testament to the transformative power of philanthropy and love. Through their unwavering commitment to St. Mary’s Hospital for Children, they have left an indelible mark on the lives of countless children and their families.
