St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children has earned international recognition for our leadership, innovation, and pioneering spirit in improving the health and quality of life for children with special needs and their families. But our stories begin right here at home.
Duaa came to St. Mary’s with burns covering more than half her small body as she was a victim of a terrible gas explosion. Before arriving at St. Mary’s, Duaa was unable to speak, talk, swallow, or play. Three months after rehabilitation at St. Mary’s, the brave little girl made a full recovery and received a celebratory send off for her discharge.
Amanda Alvarado-Frantz, a former inpatient, captured the attention of members of St. Mary’s Junior Committe at the Tribune Dinner on Monday, November 17th, with her inspiring words. With her husband by her side, Amanda recalled memories of St. Mary’s, spoke of her experiences, and most of all, shared how St. Mary’s helped her to gain her independence.

Entering an array of track and field events, St. Mary’s kids made us proud as they returned home with 8 gold and 4 silver medals.
