Queens Borough President, Helen Marshall Visits with St. Mary’s Kids in Honor of Brain Injury Awareness Month

On Wednesday, March 25th, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall joined members of the Starlight Children’s Foundation at St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children, to announce a $30,000 grant from Starlight in support of St. Mary’s Music Therapy Program, part of the Healthcare System’s comprehensive rehabilitation program for children recovering from serious injury or illness.

The month long festivities of Carnival were celebrated throughout the Caribbean and Latin America during February; but they weren’t the only one’s heating up things. The kids of St. Mary’s Hospital for Children got a little taste of the Carnival fever and have become true masqueraders.


Children of St. Mary’s always find a way to reach out and touch our hearts. Inspired by the Starworks Foundation creative expression in arts program, St. Mary’s kids put their deepest thoughts to paper, and in front of families and friends, read their published work from “The World I Know,” Starworks Anthology collection. Filled with mixed emotions, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as the children each read their stories of hope and inspiration, ranging from poems, stories, essays, and drawings.
