December 10, 2008-The crowds poured in, the DJ kept spinning holiday favorites, and the kids couldn’t stop smiling. On Wednesday, December 10th, the cheers and laughter of children along with the sounds of Santa’s bells echoed throughout the halls of Leonard’s of Great Neck. Over 500 children and their families gathered at the festive Long Island hall for an afternoon of dining, dancing, presents, and a special visitor from the North Pole at St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children’s annual Home Care Holiday Party.

The kids of St. Mary’s Hospital for Children turned into goblins, monsters, superheroes, and even a few characters from High School Musical, on Tuesday, October 14th, during a special Halloween party hosted by the country’s largest seasonal Halloween retailer, Spirit Halloween.

Kids Corner
Children of St. Mary’s always find a way to reach out and touch our hearts. Inspired by the Starworks Foundation creative expression in arts program, St. Mary’s kids put their deepest thoughts to paper, and in front of families and friends, read their published work from “The World I Know,” Starworks Anthology collection. Filled with mixed emotions, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as the children each read their stories of hope and inspiration, ranging from poems, stories, essays, and drawings. Therapy and recreation is an important part of healing for St. Mary’s kids. Therapists encourage kids to express their creativity through artwork. Their thoughts and emotions are mixed into an array of beautiful colors and paints. Click here to see art
