Team Penny Raises over 5,000 for St. Mary’s Kids

The 2015 Walk for St. Mary’s Kids is only a few weeks away and Walk teams are stepping up their outreach efforts to raise awareness and funds for St. Mary’s Kids. One of these top-performing teams is Team Penny, created in honor of a brave little girl with Aicardi syndrome, a rare neurological and developmental disorder. Penny’s has endured numerous seizures and has been hospitalized repeatedly due to complications from her disorder. Penny came to St. Mary’s to receive first-rate rehabilitative and specialized care to help her live a healthier life.

“We are extremely grateful for St. Mary’s” said Avigael Fyman—Penny’s mother. “At St. Mary’s, Penny’s complex needs are met by a skilled and caring team of doctors, nurses, assistants, therapists, teachers, and social workers. The team at St. Mary’s makes sure that all of her needs are met, from feeding, bathing, and administering medications to playing her favorite music, taking her to the pool for aqua therapy, or making sure that her menorah was lit on Hanukah.”

To date, Team Penny has raised $5,757 and is still hard at work campaigning to spread the word. Avigael, Penny, family members, and friends from her community will join hundreds of others on Sunday, May 31st at Crocheron Park in Bayside, NY for the Walk for St. Mary’s Kids. The Walk for St. Mary’s Kids features fun activities that families and the entire community can enjoy. This year St. Mary’s will offer bike helmet fittings where members of the community can receive free bike helmets for their children. All proceeds from the Walk go to benefit programs and services provided by St. Mary’s. For more information visit the Walk Website at https://events.stmaryskids.org/walk2015.
