Theatre by the Bay Brings Award Winning Musical “Annie” to St. Mary’s

On and Off- Broadway Singing Starlets Gives Back to Community and Brightens the Day for Some of NY’s Most Seriously Ill and Injured Children

Annie, Molly, Kate, Tessie, and the rest of the orphans from the award winning musical, “Annie,” captured the hearts of young patients and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children with their spectacular rendition of the Broadway sensation.

In an effort to bring the excitement of Broadway to St. Mary’s kids, some of NY’s most seriously ill and injured children battling complex medical and life-limiting conditions whom wouldn’t otherwise experience it, the energetic and talented cast from Theatre By the Bay in Bayside, Queens performed popular musical numbers such as “Tomorrow,” “Hard-Knock Life,” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” from the hit musical that follows the lives of young orphans abused by a cruel orphanage matron. Annie, a spunky, redheaded orphan, decides to run away and find her parents. The tale goes on to portray Annie’s triumph and how she overcomes her hurdles.

St. Mary’s kids were blown away by the young performers. One patient coined the show perfectly with his words. “The performers was amazing. I loved it.”

After the show, patients got a chance to meet and take pictures with the singing starlets, ages 7-years old and up, whom also took a special liking to St. Mary’s kids. Some of the performers even took a few minutes to teach St. Mary’s kids some of their dance moves.

St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children is one of the region’s premiere providers of post-acute pediatric care for children and families with special needs. Following hospitalization or when special services are needed, children come to St. Mary’s to receive intensive rehabilitation and specialized medical care through a variety of inpatient, homecare, and community programs and services.
