19-Year Old Founder of “Welcome to Whitestone” Raises Funds & Awareness for St. Mary’s Kids

Devon O’Connor Presents Check to Benefit Innovative Programs and Services Provided to Children with Special Needs

Whitestone resident and founder of Welcome to Whitestone, Devon O’Connor, presented a $750 check to St. Mary’s Hospital for Children on behalf of his newly founded organization, a non-profit business supported community relations group aimed at bringing together area business owners and residents for community and charity projects.

The young entrepreneur started Welcome to Whitestone in an effort to uplift his community and spread charitable endeavors. Devon held his first fundraiser last December and chose a worthy cause from the community that touched his heart- children with special needs at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children, one of the region’s premiere providers of post-acute pediatric care.

“It’s an extraordinary feeling to be able to help others in need, and St. Mary’s Hospital for Children has been helping kids in ways I can’t even imagine. The work they do is great and I wanted to support that effort,” remarked Devon.

In a joint effort with local businesses and families, Devon hosted a holiday party at Dabby’s – a children’s party and entertainment center in Whitestone – which featured music, games, prizes and pictures with Santa Claus- all to help raise funds and awareness for St. Mary’s kids, some of NY’s most seriously ill and injured children battling complex medical and life-limiting conditions.

All proceeds raised from the event will support the innovative programs and services St. Mary’s provides to over 4,000 children and their families who need intensive rehabilitation, and specialized medical care due to serious illness, accident, or complication of premature birth. Following hospitalizations in acute care facilities or when special services are needed, children and their families come to St. Mary’s to receive exceptional medical care and learn how to manage their condition.

Devon is committed to giving back to his community and promoting neighborhood service projects, and will continue to support young patients and their families at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children; a cause he will always keep near and dear to his heart.
