Lillian Bossio Holds Holiday Celebration for St. Mary’s Kids at Leonard’s of Great Neck
Twas a few nights before Christmas… and Santa and his elves danced and laughed and told Christmas stories, all for the kids of St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children.
On Monday, December 8, Lillian Bossio and the insurance and planning firm of Bossio, Ross & Associates helped insure a happy holiday season for colleagues, clients, and the children of St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children at the firm’s annual Special Holiday Celebration to benefit St. Mary’s. They made their list and checked it twice and St. Mary’s children were once again the guests of honor at this year’s holiday party at Leonard’s of Great Neck
For the last 6 years, Ms. Bossio has been organizing the annual holiday party for the children of the Bayside hospital, attended by her business associates, clients, friends, and family. It’s the one time of year all the children of the hospital look forward to, as it is a time for them to enjoy the holidays surrounded by friends and family; an opportunity they may not otherwise have.
“Lillian is a giving and dedicated individual who stops at nothing to make the kids of St. Mary’s happy,” remarked Burton Grebin, MD, St. Mary’s President and CEO. “By giving them the opportunity to enjoy the holidays, Lillian is giving these children the world. For many of the kids, this party is the highlight of the holiday season.”
“Many of these kids cannot walk or talk, but I look into their eyes and they speak to me with a million words,” said Ms. Bossio praising the kids of St. Mary’s.
Though the party started at 6pm, the children eagerly started getting ready for their big night several hours earlier. The girls put on their fanciest outfits to match their stylish hairdos and makeup. Not to be outdone, the boys wore their best suits or sported collared shirts and pants. The heroes of the evening were St. Mary’s dedicated staff members who not only made sure the kids looked great, but helped transport and care for more than 60 children with special needs and life-limiting conditions throughout the party.
As the children arrived at the hall decorated with holiday ornaments and colorful lights, their faces lit up with joy. They ate their favorite foods, danced the night away, and sang along to holiday favorites.
The highlight of the party was when Santa made a surprise entrance escorted by his elves and performed a special dance number dedicated to the kids of St. Mary’s.
Then, all became quiet as Santa pulled out his storybook and began reading, Twas the Night Before Christmas for the eager listeners. Santa then made his way around to talk to each child individually. A great time was had by all.
